Why Heritageford

What makes this work different

— ✦ —

Work done at your pace

We arrange visits around what suits your household. There is no pressure to move faster than feels right for the family.

Proper written records

Every item we catalogue receives a thorough written entry. The resulting document can be kept, shared, or stored alongside the collection.

Nothing handled carelessly

Books and papers that have been in a family for decades deserve careful handling. We treat them as the objects they are.

Plain language throughout

Our reading materials and workshop content are written for adults, not specialists. We avoid jargon and explain what we mean.

Based in Kuala Lumpur

We visit homes within and around Kuala Lumpur. Our work is local, and we understand the kinds of materials Malaysian families commonly hold.

Educational, not advisory

We describe and document. We do not advise on regulated matters. Families can engage us without uncertainty about the nature of the service.

Questions

What families usually ask

— ✦ —
What exactly does the Bookshelf Archive Programme involve?
We arrange a series of home visits to examine and photograph each book, note its condition, and record it in a typed catalogue. The family can add a short personal paragraph to any entry if they wish. At the end, we produce a printed bound catalogue and a digital archive file. We do not assess the monetary value of the collection, and we do not advise on any regulated matters.
How many visits are usually needed?
It depends on the size of the collection. A bookshelf of perhaps one hundred volumes generally takes two to three visits of two to three hours each. We discuss a likely schedule before the work begins, and the family is welcome to pause or extend at any point.
Who is the Heritage Reading Card intended for?
The card is written for any adult who has found themselves responsible for sorting through the papers of an older relative and would like a calm, straightforward overview of the kinds of documents typically involved. It is an educational resource and does not address any individual family's particular situation.
Is the Inventory Workshop suitable for someone with no prior experience?
Yes, and this is precisely who it is designed for. The workshop is structured around the practical work of sorting and labelling, with a printed workbook to guide the session. The facilitator helps at each stage and answers questions about folder structure. No prior knowledge is needed.
Do you handle matters such as estate administration or document filing?
No. Our work is archival and educational. We catalogue, describe, and document. We do not handle regulated matters of any kind, and we do not provide advice on what families should do with their documents. For regulated matters, a qualified professional in the relevant field should be engaged.
Where do you work, and do you travel to the home?
We are based at 18 Jalan Petaling, Kuala Lumpur, and we travel to homes within and around the Klang Valley for the Bookshelf Archive Programme. The Inventory Workshop takes place at our premises in Jalan Petaling. The Reading Card is available by post or collection.
