Six reasons families return to us
— ✦ —Archival expertise
Our team has over fourteen years of direct experience working with private family collections in Malaysia.
A clear process
Each programme has defined steps and a clear deliverable. Families know what to expect before any work begins.
Home visits included
For the Bookshelf Archive Programme, we come to you. There is no need to transport fragile or heavy materials.
Privacy respected
Personal documents and correspondence are handled with full discretion. We read only what is needed for the catalogue.
Physical deliverables
The Bookshelf Archive Programme produces a printed bound catalogue — a proper physical document, not just a spreadsheet.
Strictly non-advisory
We do not advise on regulated matters. Our scope is archival and educational, which keeps the engagement simple and honest.
Expertise
Fourteen years with private collections
Our founder spent her formative professional years in document management before turning to the specific challenges of private family collections. That background means we understand the materials we encounter — old editions, typewritten correspondence, household accounts in Jawi and Roman script — and we document them appropriately.
- Familiarity with Malaysian document formats across generations
- Experience with books in English, Bahasa Malaysia, and other languages
- Understanding of the specific condition issues that affect books in tropical climates

How a Bookshelf Archive unfolds
- 01 Initial enquiry — we discuss the collection by telephone or email
- 02 Brief assessment visit — we see the collection and agree a scope
- 03 Cataloguing visits — two to four sessions at the family home
- 04 Draft review — the family checks and adds personal notes to entries
- 05 Final delivery — printed catalogue and digital archive handed over
Process
No surprises at any stage
We describe every step before it happens. Families are not presented with unexpected costs or additional requests. The process runs on a clear schedule that the family can adjust at any point — pausing, extending, or concluding early if circumstances change.
The same clarity applies to the workshop and reading card: we describe what each involves, what it includes, and what it does not address.
Service
Responsive and straightforward
We reply to enquiries within one working day. During a programme, the family has a single point of contact and is not passed between different people. Questions are answered honestly, including questions about what we cannot help with.
- Enquiries answered within one working day
- Single point of contact throughout the programme
- Written summary after each visit
- Final catalogue reviewed with the family before printing
Value
Pricing that reflects the work
The Bookshelf Archive Programme at RM 3,250 covers all visits, photography, written entries, and the printed bound catalogue. The Heritage Reading Card at RM 140 is a standalone printed resource. The Inventory Workshop at RM 460 includes the workbook, folder, and facilitation for the full half-day session.
There are no hidden additions. What is described is what is provided.

What sets us apart
Things we do that others do not
— ✦ —The printed catalogue
We produce a proper printed bound catalogue — not a database export or a laminated sheet. This is a physical document that belongs to the family, can be annotated, and will last as long as the collection.
Work in two languages
We catalogue and communicate in English and Bahasa Malaysia. Families can choose the language of their catalogue and add personal notes in either language.
Family notes in the catalogue
Each entry in the catalogue has a space for a short paragraph from the family — a memory, a note about the previous owner, or any observation they wish to record. This is a feature no comparable service offers.
Education before engagement
The Heritage Reading Card and the Inventory Workshop allow families to build their own understanding before engaging any external help. We actively encourage this — families who understand the process make better decisions about what they need.
